Baby in the Lap of Luxury

Just to go along with our traveling with kids theme…

Aside from being the Honeymoon Guru at Classic Travel, I also have an 11 month old son.  I took him to Italy last year and some hotels really rolled out the red carpet!

The JK Place Capri  treated him like a true VIP. When we got to our room there was a wee-sized robe and slippers waiting for him, along with a complete bath set and penguin washcloth puppet that he still insists on using. His crib even got nightly turn down service and a small stuffed animal was waiting for him at bedtime.  When we checked out, he got an “I stayed at the JK Place Capri” bib.

The best of all was that Lorenzo, the manager of the restaurant, took a shine to him and carried Xavier around, giving my husband and me free hands to gorge ourselves on the delicious breakfast or quickly throw back a glass of rose.

Sometimes it’s the little things that make all the difference!

Travel with Kids

Have kids but still want to travel?

It is easier than you might think. Conde Nast Traveler just did a piece on taking kids to Florence.  I took my son there last year and it was (almost) effortless.

We stayed at Villa La Massa (which is VERY good for kids – complete with outdoor play area on their beautiful, sprawling grounds) in a one bedroom suite. The suite was great because we could put the baby to sleep in the bedroom and my husband and I could drink wine in the living room and plan our activities for the next day.

I was initially worried such an old city wouldn’t be stroller friendly – but the cobblestone streets handled our city mini just fine. It made us feel like locals because they all had strollers too!

Everyone would approach us to tell us how beautiful the baby was – and the servers at restaurants went out of their way to make us comfortable.  I think we got better treatment than we ever would have without a baby.

We’re already planning his next getaway!

France is the New Italy

Last year all of my clients wanted to go to Italy. I planned tons of incredible trips there – Florence, Amalfi Coast, Capri and Rome was a popular route.  This year it seems everyone whats to travel to France.  I have been working on a few different variations of a trip that includes time in Paris, then heading to Provence, and finishing up in the French Riviera. Sounds pretty good, don’t you think? I might have to head there myself later this year!

In Paris, I love the Le Royal Monceau Raffles and the Shangri La – one is eclectic and modern and the other is old world elegance. Which style are you?

In Aix-en-Provence, the Villa Gallici is a a beautiful little hideaway and the perfect home base to experience all of the wine, food and scenery that the area has to offer.  Or stay at Crillon le Brave in a village near Avignon for a visit to a lavender field and maybe taking a cooking class.

Then head to St. Tropez – rent a convertible and live it up on the beach during the day and sip champagne in the clubs at night. While there, the Byblos is the place to be.

I told you it sounded good!

Most Romantic Honeymoon Destinations

I’m Heather, the Honeymoon Specialist at Classic Travel and I plan tons of romantic trips. However, some destinations were just made for honeymooners. Here are my top 5 romantic honeymoon places where you just can’t go wrong:

French Polynesia – Everyone wants an overwater bungalow on Bora Bora – we combine this with some time in Moorea and I always recommend a few days in Le Taha’a for really escaping it all.  This trip is great for beach lovers, and don’t miss the ATV ride and snorkeling with the sting rays for some added adventure!

Italy – What could be better than eating and drinking your way through Italy with the one you love? Some wine tasting in Tuscany, seafood in Capri and late nights in Rome make for a perfect trip!

Thailand – Everyone wants to visit the gorgeous beaches of Thailand – Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi…the choices are endless, each is unique.  I like to add in some time in the north – either Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai to see another side of this really special country.

Caribbean – Sometimes nothing is better than a quick jaunt off to the Caribbean.  Head to St. Barts during the winter months and you will feel like you are in St. Tropez in the summer!

South Africa – Sleep under the stars of an African sky while on safari in Kruger, one of the best game parks in the world. Then head to the beach in Cape Town and enjoy delicious wines and incredible scenery in Franschhoek, just a short ride away!

If you want any additional advice on any of these places or are looking to book your own romantic honeymoon, send me an email and I’d be happy to help!
