A VIP Guest Returns to the Ritz Carlton Amelia Island Beach

Just checked in…

At the Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island, one of the rare and endangered, leatherback sea turtles laid a nest on the beach in front of the Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island.

This is the first nest of the season on Amelia Island and it is one week before the official sea turtle nesting season begins! It’s also the earliest date that a turtle nest has been recorded on Amelia Island, Florida.  The turtle weighs an estimated 1000 lbs. and buried an estimated 60 eggs.  Its distinctive sand tracks are still in place. The Amelia Island Sea Turtle Watch Organization is marking the nest towards the south end of the resort’s beach.

The sea turtle nesting season begins the first week of May and the hatching of the nests commences between mid to late August.
